- Page navigation anchor for RE: Globus pharyngeusRE: Globus pharyngeusIf the symptom is definitely intermittent I found that a simple explanation liking it to stomach gripes was very helpful. The old non-PC name (globus hystericus when I trained!!) for the symptom gives the lie to the research quoted where 96% of patients noted an association with their psychological state. I used to test for HVS/shallow breathing by simply asking the patient to take a full breath and see how long they could hold it for. This sometimes led onto helping the frequently associated irritable cough that the article mentions. My tip was to try slow deep breaths in and out.Competing Interests: None declared.
