I have been a GP for 11 years. I am 51 years of age, an 'overseas qualified doctor'. Your article was like a soothing balm to my soul. General practice is rewarding work if you have a genuine interest in it. It is unfortunate that we find ourselves so over burdened with increase patient demands, problems with failing resources and the current failing NHS. I like my work but find it tiring sometimes when I am trying to get care for my patients from hospital colleagues who have little understanding and little appreciation of what we face in our daily working lives.
Today, after reading your article, I felt it was one of those rare moments when I felt someone had so eloquently put some faith and recognition of the work that I do, and thousands of GPs do all over the UK.
Thank you for your article Rebecca.
