A lot of resource has been poured into ABIs and it is, or was, a key Scottish government target. As a result, numbers of interventions may be higher in Scotland - if not, it would show that funding has no effect. I suspect a lot of it is apathy surrounding alcohol use in so far as many healthcare staff drink as opposed to smoke, and some level of alcohol consumption is more socially desirable/acceptable. We need a culture change where alcohol is concerned.Competing Interests: None declared.
