- Page navigation anchor for Closing the gap between physical and mental health trainingClosing the gap between physical and mental health trainingDuring my tenure as Director of Medical Education for Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust I redistributed the GP trainees to training posts that met their needs more fully. This included posts in CRHT, Eating Disorders/ CAMHS, youth team and a Community Adult Post. The feedback was extremely positive. For example one trainee in the community adult team commented that he got the "best of both worlds" as he was assessing and managing acute presentations out of hours whilst getting community experience on the front line during the day! There is a case for posts in CAMHS since there are many similarities with general practice and trainees learn systemic assessment skills that are invaluable when it comes to managing psychosomatic symptoms, conversion disorders and chronic fatigue syndrome.Competing Interests: None declared.
