Most of these patients have woken up to the fact that they have been entirely misled by their doctors, often over many years, and duped into consuming drugs which have proved to be of little benefit and have often caused them serious harm. Many have consumed these drugs for decades, including myself. Many have suffered horrendously trying to withdraw from these drugs. Some take their own lives, unable to bear the torture any longer. We trawl the internet for accurate information such as that provided by Dr Spence. Perhaps they did not think I had a right to such information. The prescribing of antidepressants has reached an all-time high in Scotland, now standing at around 875,000. The RCPsych states the the benefits outweigh the risks.2 Perhaps this statement should contain a specific time period. After all, the risks are unknown for the many patients prescribed these drugs for years. Patients have now been driven to petition their Government3 and lobby the BMA so that some action can be taken...Show MoreCompeting Interests: None declared.
