One of the unexpected positives of the COVID-19 pandemic and the very steep learning curve in terms of how we consult, has been secure upload of patients' photos.
Friday morning, just before my surgery of telephone triage started, a colleague advised me that our digital assistant allowed patients to reply to a text with a photo.
Lo-and-behold, three patients that morning were worried about a patch of skin or a lesion.
They were able to send me a photo whilst we were on the phone. They were reassured but also did not need to attend the surgery, thereby reducing risks if exposure to all involved.
More importantly, the photos were imported into the patients' records for future reference.
I fully intend to continue using this function, even in face-to-face consultations.
