In my career the most common prompt I have had to this diagnosis was a raised total protein on LFTs. Our lab in Kent no longer provides this unless specifically asked for. I think this will lead to many more delayed diagnoses
When I ask for protein electrophoresis will 'light chains' automatically be done?
Automated reflex cascade lab test would be great for many illnesses (e.g., B12 and LFT with macrocytosis) liver screen with abnormal LFTs. Why is this not rolled out nationally?
Finally, any comment re using metformin in people with MUGS to prevent progression to myeloma?
