I am emailing about the confusing introduction in the "Women’s health matters" editorial in the December issue of BGJP.
Firstly, it says that the editorial uses the phrase "women" throughout, this is not aimed at being exclusive. An article on women's health is by its definition exclusive of men's health/trans women's health. It then goes on to say "recognising that not all those born with female reproductive organs identify as a woman and not all women have female reproductive organs" - actually - both these groups are not actually included in the article, only the first group (with female reproductive organs).
Perhaps it would have been simpler and less confusing if it just said something like "the editorial uses the word woman, recognising that not all with female reproductive organs identify as women"
