I have read with interest the article entitled “Any increment in physical activity reduces mortality risk of physically inactive patients: a prospective cohort study in primary care.”¹ The article focuses on the relationship between exercise and mortality in primary care. Exercise is essential for the maintenance and improvement of health conditions. As the population age, more older patients tend not to exercise in their communities. This result shows that a small amount of exercise can contribute to a patient’s health.¹ In primary care, family physicians prescribe exercise to patients. For the effective prescription of exercise, patients' motivation for exercise is essential. By using this result, family physicians can educate their patients to increase their exercise gradually. This result can thus be critical for family medicine.

Furthermore, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of the results is vital for older community-dwelling adults in rural contexts. COVID-19 impinged rural older people’s lives severely. Rural older people lose their motivation to go out and exercise because of the new social norm in the pandemic.² As this article show, even a small increase in exercise can improve their health conditions. Exercise is essential for the maintenance and improvement of health conditions. As the population age, more older patients tend not to exercise in their communities.
