Social prescribing is one of the potential solutions for both medical and psychosocial issues. As this article shows, there are various social prescribing for mental health problems such as depression and improving the conditions in reality.1 In communities, there are different deprived people, and their social conditions can cause various psychosocial issues, impinging on their quality of life.2 For the sustainability of the lives of deprived people in communities, social prescribing respecting their cultural and social contexts should be established and performed in each community.
One of the culturally sensitive social prescribing is Osekkai in Japan. Osekkai refers to an action that someone considers valuable to perform for others. In Osekkai, people help others in safe and comfortable communities. Osekkai is an unconscious behaviour in Japanese communities. The previous reports show that Osekkai may solve social isolation and loneliness.3 Each culture has different specific activities helping each other unintentionally. One fit all interventions regarding social prescribing are challenging, impinging on the quality of research, such as a lack of randomized controlled trials (RCT). However, as social prescribing intervenes in sensitive parts of people, such as those deprived of mental issues, RCT may not be ethical as a research method.
