Some very good points in this letter and one could argue that we need to accept that men tend to see male doctors for male problems and vice versa BUT as a registrar (trainee) it is the role of you practice to ensure you are exposed to the whole curriculum. This should mean whoever make appointments ensures you get a wide range of 'problems' and that you are empowered to book directly people for follow up. Furthermore, I would hope you are able with your trainer to get a significant list of those with new cancers, new problems for you to look after and follow up (COPD, heart failure, HRT, hypertension, diabetes etc) for your time in practice.
Competing Interests: As a trainee I had this done for me and as a trainer I did this for my registrars.
