Whilst agreeing with the concerns re a measles outbreak there seems to be silence in the medical and lay media re rubella and congenital rubella syndrome. I believe the NHS stopped checking maternal rubella antibodies some time ago1 and I suspect (with only anecdotal opinions) that many young women will be unaware of this grim infection. Are we as primary care clinicians mentioning this now in contraception and pre pregnancy consultations?
