I have read the research titled "Perspectives of GPs working in or alongside emergency departments in England: qualitative findings from the GPs and emergency departments study."1 The research investigated the GP's perception of working in emergency departments regarding advantages and disadvantages for the future of the general practice. The study clarified the advantages of the variation of careers of family physicians and the improvement of their scope of practice and motivation in their career construction. On the other hand, as this article shows, the core general practice may be deterred because of the possibility of promoting a lack of a workforce, especially in rural general practice.
The strong point of the research is the clarification of various general practitioners' ideas about expanding the role and scope of practice of general practice. General practice has changed the scope of practice in the history of development and advancement. However, in the era of specialists, the scope of general medical practice can be narrow in urban areas. This narrowing may oppose young general practitioners' motivation to care for patients comprehensively.2 This study's results should be discussed positively for the prosperous future of the general practice.
