These patients have a 20-fold higher risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD) than end-stage renal disease. Statins are clinically effective in reducing this additional risk of CVD by lowering cholesterol levels.Aim Assess whether adult CKD patients in Birmingham and Solihull are prescribed statins as per NICE quality standard 5 (QS5).Method We collected data on the percentage of adult patients with GP recorded CKD (G3a to G5) who were treated with statins in Birmingham and Solihull in September 2023 through CVDPREVENT, a national primary care audit database. As part of our analysis, we stratified the data according to several demographic factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, deprivation, and learning disability status to ascertain a correlation between the aforementioned parameters and the prescription rates of statins. Results Out of 42 400 patients, only 27 985 (66%) were prescribed statins in accordance with NICE guidance QS5 in September 2023.Conclusion Increased medical education to healthcare professionals on updated guidelines, and documentation reminders on computerised health records in primary care may be effective in improving statin prescription rates in CKD patients.</style>
</record></records></xml>
