AB  - The Finnish sickness insurance scheme provides for free medicines for patients suffering from certain chronic diseases, such as hypertension. The level of control of hypertension among a group of 169 patients receiving free medicine was found to be inadequate. There are implications both for the prognosis of the patients and the cost-effectiveness of the free medicine programme.
