Effectiveness of multifactorial interventions in primary health care settings for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease: A systematic review of systematic reviews
2015, Preventive MedicineCitation Excerpt :Finally, interventions that encourage lifestyle changes are effective in improving risk behaviours (Appel et al., 2003; Svetkey et al., 2005), including eating habits (Yu-Poth et al., 1999; Brunner et al., 2007) or the combination of better eating habits and increased physical exercise (Klonizakis et al., 2013). These interventions have a small effect on total and cardiovascular mortality (Kornitzer and Rose, 1985; Strandberg et al., 1995; Gaede et al., 2008a), but one review (Willis et al., 2012) reflects a certain effectiveness of high-intensity interventions in reducing mortality. Nonetheless, because these are population-based interventions, small declines in incidence have great repercussions in absolute terms, and usually at low cost (Kristiansen et al., 1991; Gaede et al., 2008b).
